Did You Wash 'Em?
Not
so many years ago, good health and good hygienic practices went hand-in-hand.
Everyone was aware that by practicing good hygiene you were protecting
your health and that of others. Before eating or when coming in
from playing outside, or parents or teachers would ask, "Did
you wash your hands?"
Even in today's culture of great medical cures and high-tech treatments, that question is still significant. Handwashing remains one of the most simple methods of preventing many infectious illnesses.
One of the main functions of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is disease prevention. For that reason, KDHE has developed and implemented a statewide Handwashing Education Campaign that uses direct education at local levels and statewide media messages in an effort to reach all Kansans, with special emphasis on children and food service workers.
This multifaceted public health campaign is an effort to increase public awareness of the importance of effective handwashing in preventing the transmission of infectious diseases and good health practice.
