"My Mouth Hurts" -
This publication is what might be considered normal pathology
and constitutes a fair sampling of what you might encounter when
you look in a childs mouth after they say, My Mouth
Hurts! Special thanks to Delta Dental PANDA Program for the use of their
research photos in this presentation.

American Academy of Pediatrics Oral Health
The American Academy of Pediatrics in partnership with the federal Maternal
and Child Health Bureau (MCHB), have implemented the Pediatrics
Collaborative Care (PedsCare) Program, Oral Health Initiative.
The purpose of the program is to promote improved child oral
health by offering pediatricians the tools and support they need
to provide community-based, collaborative care. The goal of the first
stage of the initiative is to provide training on oral health care. The
Web site was developed by the PedsCare program to provide pediatricians,
child health professionals, and parents with information and resources
related to oral health.

Bright Futures in Practice - Oral Health

Open Wide
Open Wide: Oral Health Training for Health Professionals is a series of
four self-contained online modules designed to help health and early childhood
professionals working in community settings (e.g., Head Start and WIC staff)
promote oral health in the course of promoting general health for infants,
children, and their families.
The modules were prepared by the National Maternal and Child
Oral Health Resource Center and the Center for the Advancement
of Distance Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago
with support from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau. Topics
include tooth decay, risk factors, and prevention; oral health
risk assessment and oral health screening; and anticipatory guidance
for parents. Each module includes an overview, learning objectives,
key points, a self-assessment quiz, online resources, and an
evaluation form. A glossary and a list of presentations, print
materials, and videotapes are also presented.

This oral health education resource list was developed to support
efforts in teaching children and families the importance of
oral health. Books,
videotapes, brochures, and web sites are among the resources described.
P.A.N.D.A.
P.A.N.D.A. is an acronym for Prevent Abuse and Neglect through
Dental Awareness. It is an educational program to help dental
professionals and health care providers, recognize and report
suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.
