Brushing Buddies was designed by the Success By 6 Nutrition Action Team, affiliated with United Way of Greater Topeka. Funding for the project came from community Success By 6 partners and the Rotary Clubs of Shawnee County.

Brushing Buddies is a comprehensive nutrition and oral health event for preschool children and their families.  The information incorporates the basic concepts of the food guide pyramid and the 5-a-day message to increase fruit and vegetable consumption.  It encourages physical activity and reading readiness through a variety of oral health activities.

The event includes reading a book about good foods and oral health.  Families participate in nutrition and oral health activities by preparing a tooth-friendly snack, crafting a tooth brushing mobile, trying a fruit and vegetable bean bag toss, learning to brush their teeth properly and visiting with dental professionals.

The target audience of Brushing Buddies is preschool children and their families, but segments may be adapted to include other groups or may be used in a more traditional classroom setting with minor modifications.
