The Kansas Association of Local Health Departments (KALHD) is pleased to provide you with the Reportable Disease Protocols. Users may view, print, or download individual disease protocols by selecting the protocol by name.

This work was provided from funding provided to KALHD in the 2004 public health bioterrorism grant. The protocols were written to provide technical assistance with local surveillance and disease investigation. They contain not only disease specific information, but also sample letters, reporting forms, sample communication sheets and other tools to assist the local public health department.

These protocols have been reviewed by KDHE for content and are intended to replace the KDHE Disease Protocols (big orange book, sometimes called "BOB"). They should be used by local health department staff when reportable disease information is needed. As with BOB, these protocols are dynamic, and will be revised as needed.

Local staff should note that only those forms marked KDHE or CDC need be sent to KDHE. Not all the forms included in the protocols need to be returned to KDHE with every disease investigation. The other forms are included to aid in the local health department investigation if needed.

KDHE OSE Infectious Disease Case Classifications

KDHE OSE created this table to aid in classifying infectious diseases according to the CSTE approved case definitions. All diseases have a CSTE case definition for 'confirmed' but not all diseases have case definitions for all of the other classifications (probable, suspect, and not a case). KDHE OSE developed definitions for most of the classifications not populated by CSTE case definitions. These definitions are the grey-shaded boxes located in the document below.
